PitBook privacy policy
This policy explains what PitBook stores, where it goes and how to remove it. PitBook is published by Redellium LLC.
What PitBook stores
- Cooks you log: names, dates, smoker and fuel, cuts, weights, target and actual temperatures, timeline events, notes and ratings.
- Photos you choose to attach to a cook.
- Temperature and battery readings from MEATER probes you pair over Bluetooth.
- Your PitBook purchase status.
Where it’s kept
Your cooks, photos and probe readings are stored on your iPhone and synced through your own iCloud account, in a private CloudKit database. Redellium can’t access them.
Probe readings travel from the probe to your iPhone over Bluetooth. Cook summaries are written on your iPhone by Apple’s on-device model, so your cooks aren’t sent to Redellium or anyone else to produce them.
Services PitBook uses
- RevenueCat handles PitBook subscriptions. It receives an anonymous app user ID and your App Store purchase record, never your cooks. Read RevenueCat’s privacy policy.
- Apple processes the payment through the App Store.
- PostHog receives a small, fixed set of usage events, for example that a cook was started or finished, so we can see which features are used. PostHog hosts them in the US. Each event carries a random ID that PitBook creates when you install it. That ID isn’t your name, your Apple ID or your iPhone’s advertising identifier, and it resets if you delete PitBook. PostHog also receives your iPhone’s IP address with each event and uses it to estimate your approximate location, such as your city and country. PitBook never collects your precise location. These events aren’t linked to your identity, sold, or used to track you across apps or websites, and PitBook doesn’t record sessions. PostHog keeps these events for up to 1 year. Read PostHog’s privacy policy.
Crash reports reach us only through Apple, and only if you’ve chosen to share them with app developers in your iPhone’s settings. PitBook contains no advertising or tracking SDKs.
Notifications
Cook alerts are scheduled on your iPhone. PitBook doesn’t use a push notification server, and you can turn each alert off in PitBook’s settings.
Keeping and deleting your data
PitBook keeps your data until you delete it. Deleting a cook removes it from your iPhone and your iCloud account. Deleting PitBook removes what it stored on your iPhone; the copy in your iCloud account stays until you remove it in your iPhone’s iCloud settings.
Children
PitBook isn't directed at children under 13, and Redellium doesn't knowingly collect their information.
